WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR TAX BILL IN 2020?

nat rosasco • June 15, 2020

Your property property tax bill came in and you're wondering WHAT DO I DO?!?

What grants do i take?

Where is the money?

We're here to break it all down for you!

The first thing to do is make sure you read that property tax bill thoroughly. There are usually grants showing on that bill which are very easy to understand. Most homeowners qualify for the first grant, which is actually living on the property. There is a second and third which involves going to the website and following the instructions. Following that, you can actually go straight to city hall in order to claim your grant from there.

You may be paying your property taxes with your lender. If that's the case, it's very easy. You can find out how much you have carried with your lender in something called a property tax account. This can be located online or by going direct to the lender via phone call. Usually there is enough or more than enough in that property tax account that your lender is going to pay that on your behalf on July 2nd which is the deadline.

There is the ability to defer your property taxes. If you are over the age of 55, or fall into a few other considerations, you may defer your property taxes. Our recommendation is that you consult with the city to see whether this decision makes sense for you.

If you have any other questions about property taxes, make sure you read that bill or talk to the city directly. If you have any other questions about mortgages, reach out to us!
